BP Offers Contactless Payments at Branded Sites

WARRENVILLE, Ill. – Looking to improve its customers' experience, BP is introducing universal contactless payment technology at participating BP-branded retail locations, allowing consumers to pay for purchases using VISA payWave, MasterCard PayPass or ExpressPay from American Express and has plans to accept Discover's contactless payment platform in the future.

BP's system uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology through CommLinx to complete transactions. To pay, consumers hold their contactless-enabled payment card near the reader inside participating BP stores.

"We are committed to improving the BP experience for our consumers," Kevin Phelan, senior vice president, marketing and cards for BP, said in a written statement. "With this new, exciting technology, BP is providing a faster and more convenient way to pay at retail sites, which benefits on-the-go consumers."

The new technology will benefit consumers with its increased speed and convenience; cards do not need to be swiped at registers and no signatures are required for purchases less than $25.

Contactless technology is available at more than 1,100 BP-branded sites. The company plans to roll out this technology to its retail locations by mid-2008.
