Atlas Oil Co. Opens Rail Fuel Transfer Terminal

TAYLOR, Mich. -- Atlas Oil Co. opened its new Albuquerque, N.M., rail fuel transfer terminal, co-located at the BNSF Railway yard. The new Atlas terminal is capable of handling nine rail tankers for off-loading ethanol, and Atlas will initially be providing ethanol and transportation services to a major oil company/refiner who currently ships ethanol into New Mexico via tank truck from Texas, the company stated.

"Atlas is very happy to be able to help meet New Mexico’s green fuel blending requirements," said Mike Evans, executive vice president of business development at Atlas Oil Co.

"Working with our customers, BNSF and the City of Albuquerque to get this project completed in such a short period of time really highlights everyone’s commitment to being both environmentally friendly and economically sensitive to the needs of consumers. We’re also very grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received as we make this first step into New Mexico and the Southwest."

The Albuquerque rail transloading facility is part of a broader strategic expansion for Atlas Oil into ethanol transloading, according to the company. Atlas anticipates creating or acquiring 10 to 15 additional ethanol transloading facilities over the next several years.

This new rail terminal will reduce the need for tank truck shipments into the Albuquerque market, reducing both traffic congestion and green house gas emissions. Atlas is also investigating the viability of supplying additional types of fuel through this terminal as it expands its operations.
