Agency Suggests C-Store Security Measures
Albuquerque, N.M. -- New Mexico's Occupational Health and Safety Bureau issued safety recommendations for convenience stores after a study of crime in all-night stores in the state, according to an Associated Press report. Recommendations include increased lighting inside and outside stores and clearing store windows of signs that block the view of store interiors.
Other recommendations by the agency include installing cameras and security links to police stations or security companies.
A state survey found that 16 killings at convenience stores in six cities occurred in the state during the past five years, along with 24 rapes, 37 kidnappings, 1,918 assaults, 2,633 robberies and 70 suicides.
