7-Eleven Store Shuts Down During Dallas Tragedy

DALLAS — A 7-Eleven store in downtown Dallas shut down following the fatal police shooting in the area Thursday night, reported WFAA 8.

Hundreds of people fled the site of a protest against the recent deaths of two African American men shot by police in Baton Rouge, La., and St. Paul, Minn., after a gunman began shooting in a sniper-style attack. Many gathered in the parking lot of the convenience store, located at the intersection of Griffin and San Jacinto. Some were drunk and unruly and alleged to be stealing from inside the store, according to the report.

The 7-Eleven location typically operates 24 hours a day, but management asked that the store be closed around midnight.

Five police officers were killed in the attack and seven more were injured, along with two civilians. Dallas police announced that the suspected gunman, identified as Micah Xavier Johnson of Mesquite, Texas, was killed by a bomb squad robot after negotiations between the police and Johnson broke down following a standoff in a parking garage.

Organizers of the protest, which had been peaceful prior to the attack, have condemned the gunman's actions.
