7-Eleven Sales Solid in September

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc., operator of 5,800 convenience stores in North America, reported total sales for September 2003of $952 million, an increase of 8.4 percent over the September 2002 total of $878.3 million. Total merchandise sales for September 2003 were $655.8 million, an increase of 3.6 percent over the September 2002 total of $633.1 million.

U.S. same-store merchandise sales for September 2003 increased 2.2 percent, on top of a 2.7-percent increase in September 2002.

Gasoline sales for September 2003 were $296.2 million, a 20.8-percent increase compared to $245.2 million in the prior-year period. Average gallons sold per store increased 2.6 percent in September 2003 compared to the September 2002 result. The average retail price of gasoline for September2003 was $1.70, compared to $1.44 in September 2002.

Year-to-Date Results
The following results compare year-to-date results through September2003 to the same period last year:
* U.S. same-store merchandise sales have increased 3.4 percent, on top of a 3.1 percent increase for 2002.
* Merchandise sales are $5.8billion, an increase of 5.0 percent.
* Gasoline sales total $2.6 billion, an increase of 23.7percent.
* Average gasoline gallons sold per store have increased 4.6 percent.
