7-Eleven Offers AOL Latino Prepaid Internet Cards

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc., which has approximately 5,800 convenience stores in the United States, will be offering the AOL Latino Internet Prepagado (Prepaid Internet Card) in participating stores nationwide.

AOL Latino, the only bilingual Internet service provider for U.S. Hispanics, launched the card to enhance payment options and Internet access for that demographic. According to the Synovate 2004 U.S. Hispanic Market Report, payment methods for U.S. Hispanics is lagging behind the general market, with only 57 percent credit card/debit card penetration vs. 89 percent for the general population. To broaden access options for consumers, AOL Latino introduced a Spanish PrePaid Starter Kit and bilingual refill cards.

The AOL Latino Paquete de Instalacion (Starter Kit) allows new users the opportunity to install the AOL Latino service and use the AOL service for a prepaid amount of time. For $9.99, new users will receive the installation CD and up to 400 minutes worth of Internet access. The Tarjeta de Recarga (Bilingual Refill Card) is available for $8.99 and members get up to 375 minutes to access the AOL service. The AOL PrePaid Starter Kit is also available in English.

"We are bullish on this product, given our already strong prepaid business and also because Hispanic consumers represent an important part of our customer base," said Kevin Elliott, vice president of merchandising for 7-Eleven. "AOL Latino Internet Prepagado is another way for us to meet an unfulfilled need for our customers, something we strive to do through all our product categories."
