Kwik Trip Sponsoring Another Freedom Honor Flight for Vets

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- There's another opportunity coming up for World War II veterans from the La Crosse, Wis., area to see their memorials in Washington D.C.

The next Freedom Honor Flight is scheduled for May 14 and will include about 100 veterans and 50 volunteer guardians. The flight is being made possible through a lot of fundraising from veterans organizations and individuals. And once again, Kwik Trip has made a $50,000 donation to the organization.

Organizers are strongly encouraging veterans to apply to go on a Kwik Trip Freedom Honor Flight in the future. "We know that they're getting older. We don't have a lot of time to get them to Washington. We have a wonderful program set for them and we will get them to Washington if they will simply apply," says Freedom Honor Flight president Chuck Hanson.

Also, there's an opportunity for you to support Freedom Honor Flight. You can make a donation at any Kwik Trip store for the next two weeks or anytime online at freedomhonorflight.org.

Kwik Trip stores have begun their second annual two-week fundraising effort for Honor Flights, programs that send World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II memorial. The effort began Friday and allows customers to make donations as well as sign and post certificates of contribution in the stores.

Kwik Trip also will have applications available in stores for veterans interested in going on one of the flights. Last year, donations totaled more than $205,000, which were distributed among the Honor Flight hubs in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Among the recipients is the Never Forgotten Honor Flight hub, which serves central Wisconsin. Kwik Trip officials hope to raise $225,000 this year.

Never Forgotten Honor Flight plans two spring trips for veterans, on April 18 and May 2. For more information, log on to www.neverforgottenhonorflight.com.
