Kum & Go Gives $115,000 to Red Cross for Joplin Tornado Recovery

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Kum & Go LLC donated $115,000 to the American Red Cross to help Joplin, Mo., recover from the devastating tornado that hit the town on May 22, according to a KOAMTV.com report.

Kum & Go President and CEO Kyle Krause presented the check on Tuesday at the c-store chain's Range Line Road store in Joplin, which was severely damaged by the storm.

"This is our way of trying to be local, to be a part of Joplin, and trying to share how we feel to the citizens of Joplin," Krause said. "Our associates also had that same caring value and they want their own way of being able to give back, so for them to be able to put money in and ask their customers for money was a great combination."

Kum & Go's "Help Joplin" campaign raised money in $1 increments from both customers and employees at more than 400 store locations in 11 states, the company said.

Along with the donation, the c-store chain announced its plans to rebuild the Range Line store.
