Save-A-Lot’s Newest Stores Have Fresh Focus

EARTH CITY, Mo. — Save-A-Lot, the hard-discount grocery banner of Supervalu Inc., opened 13 new stores in eight states over the past month. The new stores focus on fresh with “a commitment to bring fresh produce, dairy and meat” to their communities, according to company officials.

The newest store opened in Rockford, Ill., on Feb. 26 and replaced a Schnuck’s store that closed in May. A second Rockford Save-A-Lot location is currently under construction.

The other 12 new locations are a combination of corporate-owned and licensed stores located in:

  • Lancaster, Akron and Eastlake, Ohio;
  • Newburgh and Rome, N.Y.;
  • Appalachia and Norfolk, Va.;
  • Cambridge, Md.;
  • Kewanee, Ill.;
  • Memphis, Tenn.;
  • Columbia, S.C.; and
  • Tamarac, Fla.

Currently, more than 1,300 Save-A-Lots operate across the nation in urban, suburban and rural areas.

Save-A-Lot stores serve more than 4 million shoppers each week and provide customers with savings on groceries up to 40 percent compared to conventional grocery stores, according to the Missouri-based company.
