GetGo Looks to Take Over Columbus 7-Eleven Stores

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- One month after three 7-Eleven convenience stores near The Ohio State University closed their doors, at least two could be back in business soon.

Last week, Giant Eagle Inc.'s Tamarkin Co. real estate affiliate filed for carryout liquor licenses for the former 7-Eleven stores located at 1551 N. High St. and 352 W. Lane Ave. according to Columbus Business First. The liquor applications, which remain in process, identify each as potential GetGo convenience stores.

7-Eleven Inc. licensee Garb-Ko Inc., the former operator of the stores, shuttered the businesses after failing to come to terms on a lease renewal, as CSNews Online previously reported. Garb-Ko also closed a third area 7-Eleven store at 1574 Kenny Road.

A spokesman for Giant Eagle told the business publication in an email that "nothing is signed," so the company would not comment.

Florida-based Benderson Development Co. owns all three properties.

Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle operates more than 220 grocery stores and 175 GetGo convenience stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland. Saginaw, Mich.-based Garb-Ko still operates 7-Eleven stores in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
