Dollar General to Transition Dollar Express Locations

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — There will soon be several more Dollar General locations in the Midwest.

The Goodlettsville-based retailer is rebranding 20 Dollar Express stores in the Chicago and St. Louis areas to the Dollar General banner by late fall. The stores are among the 323 stores in 36 states that Dollar General acquired from New York-based private equity firm Sycamore Partners in April.

The rebannered stores will feature a layout designed to facilitate shopping and employ about six to 10 people.

The 15 Chicago-area stores are in the Jefferson Park, Vittum Park, East Side, Back of the Yards, Jeffery Manor, Grand Crossing, East Chatham, Edgewater, Little Village, Brighton Park and Portage Park communities, in addition to locations near the border of Chicago and Evanston and in Aurora, Berwyn and Elgin.

Five St. Louis Dollar Express stores will also be converted, while two others, in Jennings, Mo., will be relocated.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Dollar Express was created in 2015 to address Federal Trade Commission concerns regarding competition when Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar. Dollar General operates more than 12,500 stores in 46 states.
