NEW YORK -- Hess Corp. has been named to ComputerWorld's "100 Best Places to Work in IT 2010."
Ranking Hess No. 96 on the list, the magazine recognized Hess' annual performance management and compensation processes, which were designed to acknowledge and reward outstanding performance, with top information technology (IT) performers receiving 150 percent of their target bonuses. Noncash and cash spot awards are given for exceptional work.
"After the recent launch of a high-profile online human resources employee self-service center, more than a dozen IT employees received performance bonuses," the magazine noted.
Outstanding performance on projects is recognized through articles on the IT community Web site, on iHess.com and at IT employee town hall meetings held periodically through the year at each office.
ComputerWorld also spotlighted Hess' high-quality dining facilities that are heavily subsidized or fully funded by the company. "The Houston facility was designated one of the 10 best restaurants in Houston, thanks to its varied and healthy breakfast and lunch menus," the magazine noted. "A breakfast and lunch menu is offered at the company's midtown Manhattan facility, which also affords sweeping views of Times Square and the Hudson River. The Woodbridge, N.J., office has a ground-floor cafeteria with doors that open to a beautiful garden setting for al fresco dining in summer. Lunch there is only $3 per employee."
Of the company's nearly 11,000 employees, 221 have IT roles. IT employee turnover last year was 9 percent; 6 percent of IT employees received promotions, and 25 percent of IT employees at Hess are women; 18 percent of IT managers are women. Twenty-eight percent of the IT staff are minorities, the magazine reported, noting 8 percent of IT managers are minorities.
The company's IT training budget was $6,000 last year.
