Hess' C-Neutral Program Delivers Green Choice

NEW YORK -- In an effort to go green, Hess Corp. is launching the C-Neutral program, an initiative allowing customers to buy electricity, fuel oil and natural gas without increasing their carbon footprint.

"Demand from customers for environmentally responsible energy solutions has never been stronger," Gene Kutcher, Hess Energy Marketing vice president of sales, told The Star-Ledger. "Commercial and industrial customers face growing pressures from legislators, shareholders and their customers to reduce their carbon footprint in response to growing climate changes."

The program is overseen by Hess engineers who will calculate the carbon emissions associated with a customer’s energy usage and include enough carbon offsets with the energy purchase to make it up to 100 percent carbon neutral, the paper reported. Kutcher told the paper offsets are turned into credits put toward cleaner forms of energy, such as solar and wind power, which generate energy without contributing to global warming.
