Hershey Sponsors Youth Track & Field

The Hershey Co. is expanding its commitment to promoting active lifestyles among children by sponsoring USA Track & Field events and creating an interactive educational Web site for communities and local athletes.
Through the new agreement, Hershey will use USA Track & Field athletes for local appearances, educate youth about the importance of fitness via USA Track & Field's existing events and develop meaningful programs that promote and raise awareness for running and fitness.

The sponsor of Hershey's Track & Field Games for 28 years, the candy maker's expanded commitment to youth track and field now includes the Web site, www.hersheytrackandfield.com, working with track stars Justin Gatlin, Joanna Hayes, Monique Henderson and Rafer Johnson, honoring volunteers who have committed their time and services to Hershey's Track and Field Games and advertising the importance of youth fitness.

Local, state and regional track meets began in early May and will run through July. Children who win at the local and state level can qualify for the North American Final Meet August 4 through 7 in Hershey, Pa. The North American Final brings more than 500 children ages nine to 14 to compete and experience the positive role that activity plays in young lives.

Initiated in Charleston, W.Va., by Dr. Donald P. Cohen, the Hershey's Track & Field Games has become the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America. Hershey provides funding for the program in the United States and Canada. Sponsors include the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), the President's Council on Physical Fitness, and Sports and Athletics Canada.
