Giant Eagle Tests Mailing Service

PITTSBURGH -- In its latest move to attract new shoppers, Giant Eagle Inc. is testing Post Net, a mailing service retail franchise, the Pittsburgh Business Times reports.

Based in Henderson, Nev., Post Net claims to be the largest and fastest-growing privately held company in the postal and business services industry. The store offers traditional postal services, including custom packaging, fax submissions, mailing and stamps, and mailbox rentals.

Tim Hester, area developer representing Post Net throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, said he hopes that Giant Eagle will play a major role in helping Post Net expand its business in the region, estimating that Post Net could eventually be in 40 percent of Giant Eagle's more than 200 supermarkets.

"We certainly believe that working with Giant Eagle will help us to dominate the market and give Giant Eagle an added point of difference," Hester said.

So far, Giant Eagle has installed Post Net locations in two of its stores in the region. The locations use about 300 square feet of space near the front of the stores. The company expects to install Post Nets within two more stores as it decides whether to roll out the concept chain-wide, according to the report.

Key to that decision will be the sales results the Post Net locations generate during this year's holiday season.
