Giant Eagle Eyes New GetGo Station

SOLON, Ohio -- Giant Eagle wants to build a larger Giant Eagle supermarket and a GetGo gas station within the Solar Shopping Center here, the Twinsburg Sun reported. The company’s proposal was introduced late last month by Brad Kowit, a real estate consultant with Kowit & Passov Real Estate Group, located in Cleveland.

To make it happen, Caplan Perlick Ltd., which owns the Solar Shopping Center, would have to demolish the center's southern wing, which now contains a Subway quick-service restaurant, and about half the wing that currently contains Giant Eagle, which spans about 50,000 square feet.

A new state-of-the-art Giant Eagle—reaching roughly 90,900 square feet—would be built on a 3.4-acre parcel just south of Solar. The land would become part of the shopping center. The half of the existing Giant Eagle wing that would remain standing would get a new facade under the plan, the report stated.

In November, voters rezoned the parcel from office to retail in the hope that a new Giant Eagle would be constructed there. Giant Eagle also wants to put a GetGo gas station somewhere within the Solar Shopping Center. Existing zoning doesn't permit gas stations, so a rezoning would be necessary, according to the newspaper.
