Giant Eagle Discontinues Foodperks! Loyalty Program

The grocer is choosing instead to expand its fuelperks! discount.

PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle is ending its discount program foodperks! but expanding its fuelperks! gasoline discount program, according to an Associated Press report.

Under the foodperks! program, customers could get 1-percent discounts on food for every 10 gallons of gas purchased at the grocer's GetGo convenience stores. However, the program was too complicated for many customers, stated company officials.

The company will now focus on fuelperks!, which previously gave customers a 10-cents-per-gallon discount on gas at GetGo stations for every $50 worth of food purchase at Giant Eagle. Now, the newly expanded fuelperks! program will offer GetGo customers a three-cents-per-gallon discount even if they have no accumulated discounts. Participating customers must use a computerized Advantage Card.

Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle has more than 220 grocery stores and 175 GetGo c-stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
