    Frito-Lay Plumps Up Snack Bags

    Snack maker reverses practice of reducing the amount of food per bag to avoid raising prices.

    PLANO, Texas -- Bags of some of the most popular snacks from Frito-Lay Inc., based here, may feel plumper these days as the nation's largest snack maker reversed its practice of reducing the amount of food per bag so that it could handle rising ingredient costs without raising prices, The Dallas Morning News reported.

    The company said recently it increased the amount of food per bag by 20 percent in top-sellers such as Doritos, Tostitos and Cheetos. The increase reverses "any weight outs from the last few years," a Frito-Lay spokeswoman said.

    In a news release this week, Frito-Lay's parent PepsiCo Inc. said the boost, which involves no increase in price, is part of its "continuing commitment to deliver value to consumers." The news release did not mention the previous weight, the newspaper reported.
