Florida Chevron Adds a Full-Service Post Office

BEVERLY HILLS, Fla. -- The newest post office in Florida offers expanded business hours -- and while customers are there, they can also gas up your car and pick up a gallon of milk or order dinner.

Following the co-branding trend, inside convenience stores, the U.S. Postal Service has opened the first local full-service "contract postal unit" at the K G Chevron, Beverly Hills, Fla.

The post office inside a convenience store offers the same services that a regular post office does: A person can ship a package by priority mail or regular mail, send a registered letter or just buy a book of stamps.

"The biggest advantage is the hours of operation," said William Carter, postmaster at the Lecanto post office, which oversees the smaller unit at K G Chevron. The post office at K G is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

There are other businesses that have postal branches, such as Beall's in Inverness, Fla., but they don't offer full service. They mostly serve as mail drop centers and a place to buy stamps.

Sammy Gulzar, owner of K G Chevron, trained in a classroom and then, after a soft opening last month, with postal staffers for a week. The store held its grand opening Wednesday. "This is a dream come true for me," he said.
