ExxonMobil's Speedpass Lets Customers Save 15 Cents Per Gallon

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Drivers with travel plans for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend can see some relief at the pump if they use ExxonMobil's Speedpass payment system, the company reported.

Starting today and for the next 60 days, customers who register their Speedpass accounts online will earn discounts on gas purchases at participating Exxon and Mobil gas stations. The 15-cents-per-gallon discount is good for up to 100 gallons of gas, or a total of $15. The savings come in the form of rebates on the credit or debit card accounts attached to customers' Speedpass devices. In order to receive the discount, customers must register online at Speedpass.com by June 30.

"We appreciate the loyalty of our customers, so we're rewarding them with an easy way to save on gas during the travel season," said Chris Mahoney, U.S. branded wholesale manager, ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing Company. "In addition, Speedpass is faster than cash or a credit card, a convenience for our busy customers."

Speedpass is a contactless payment system in which drivers don't have to manually run their credit or debit cards. Instead, they use Speedpass key tags, which contain a built-in chip and radio frequency antenna that communicates with Speedpass readers at fuel pumps, convenience store registers and Exxon and Mobil station car wash kiosks. Customers only have to wave their key tag in front of a reader to automatically transmit a unique identification and security code to the Speedpass payment system before the payment is instantly processed and charged to a linked credit or debit card. Speedpass does not save card information, preferences or personal details, the company said.

The discount promotion is available only to consumer accounts and not fleet or business accounts. Fuel purchases in New Jersey and Louisiana are not eligible for the promotion, but ExxonMobil will send newly enrolled drivers in those states a $20 gift card if they sign up by June 30 and activate their accounts by July 31.
