ExxonMobil Adds Online Station Search

REDLANDS, Calif. -- ExxonMobil Corp. is now providing a new service to its customers, allowing Web site visitors to search a directory for the closest Exxon and Mobil stations in a given area.

Using ESRI's RouteMAP IMS, a site visitor can view a general map with locations listed; display and print turn-by-turn driving directions and maps to locations; search for business locations within a one- to 300-mile radius or by zip code; create map routes between locations with the closest Exxon and/or Mobil locations listed; and zoom-in/zoom out as well as pan across the map.

In addition, users can perform customized searches for Exxon and Mobil stores based on specific services offered, including a location with a convenience store, Speedpass acceptance, prepaid cards, a car wash and an ATM.

ExxonMobil chose Web Marketing, a Web services developer, to help the company add efficient mapping and routing capabilities to the site, www.exxonmobil.com. Web Marketing also provides ExxonMobil with its location database services and customer data needs.

Additionally, it was Web Marketing that selected ESRI's technology, which used VBScript to meet ExxonMobil's specific needs, and the software resides on Web Marketing's server to allow for total control of the content and user interface.

"We looked at a number of solutions quite rigorously, and we really liked the ESRI software," says Jack Brown, president of Web Marketing. "There was a great deal of work involved in customizing the site the way ExxonMobil wanted it. We performed extensive customization for the search criteria, since we wanted to give users a lot of flexibility based on the feedback we received."
