ENRG to Build Natural Gas Stations

SEAL BEACH, Calif.

ENRG, the largest retailer of natural gas-powered vehicles in North America, yesterday won a bid to buy and operate 11 compressed natural gas stations from San Diego-based Sempra Energy Co. Financial terms of the were not disclosed.

Though the natural gas company declined to announce the new brand it would be marketing the fuel under, it said the units would likely include convenience stores and possibly car washes.

ENRG, which is comprised of assets from Boone Pickens' privately held Pickens Fuel Corp. and Canadian companies BC Gas Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc., said it expects annual sales of compressed natural gas and liquified natural gas to exceed three million gallons per year in San Diego County.
