Earth Day Has a Friend in Wilson Farms

By W. B. King

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms Xpress stores will join like-minded stores around the nation on Earth Day by encouraging customers to support its reusable tote bag campaign.

While Earth Day is the pinnacle event, April is Environmental Awareness Month; however, that doesn't stop Wilson Farms from encouraging year-round use of the reusable tote bags. The bags are sold for 99 cents each and remain a cost-effective alternative to the proverbial question: paper or plastic?

"Wilson Farms reusable tote bags are made of 100 percent non-woven polypropylene. The material is lightweight and durable, recyclable and reusable, resistant to corrosion, hypoallergenic and non-toxic and washable and water repellent," Kimberly Tylec, public relations/communications coordinator for Wilson Farms told CSNews Online.

Tylec explained that Wilson Farms began using reusable bags last May, an initiative that has received tremendous support. "Customer response to the reusable tote bags has been positive thus far and continues every day. We know our valued customers share the same passion for environmental awareness as we do," she told CSNews Online.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year, which equates to more than one million per minute. Wilson Farms is looking to do its part in decreasing that staggering statistic.

"In our ongoing effort to support environmental awareness in the community we are proud to offer our valued customers these reusable tote bag," president and CEO of Wilson Farms, Paul Nanula said in a released statement. "We encourage our customers to support Earth Day and the environment all year long by picking up a tote bag today."
