E-Z Mart Pumps Up Security

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- E-Z Mart, the Texarcana-Texas based convenience store chain, has selected Westec InterActive to provide bidirectional interactive security and operational improvements systems chain-wide for the company's 300-plus stores. The installation and upgrade of all systems is expected to be completed by September 2007.

EZ Mart, which sells unbranded and branded fuels including Shell, Conoco/Phillips and Citgo, recently remodeled many locations with new pump canopies and enhanced interior and exterior lighting for a cleaner, safer environment.

"Westec has helped us achieve significant safety and operational improvements in the past eight years," said Sonja Hubbard, CEO of E-Z Mart. "During this time, the advanced technology systems have proven their value with quality and reliability. The Westec system is most valuable if one of our clerks needs help in the middle of the night, and Westec is there."

E-Z Mart began using Westec’s advanced interactive systems in 1999, and presently has more than 125 systems installed in its locations to reduce losses and improve controls.

"Our priority is our employees and customers," said Hubbard, adding, "When needed, Westec will engage the police on our behalf."

E-Z Mart plans to upgrade and reconfigure existing systems to the Westec iVR, intelligent video recorder, which offers flexible recording options, online account management, and enterprise-wide device management capabilities. A number of stores will have 8–16 cameras, depending on size and monitoring needs.

E-Z Mart also operates its own in-house auditing group that leverages the Westec remote monitoring capabilities. E-Z Mart audits each store on a regular basis, during which the in-house monitoring staff reviews a checklist of items such as customer service, age verification, cash handling procedures, cleanliness and overall store operations. Other departments use the system to review status of repair projects, signage, merchandising displays, vendor check-in or other varying issues.

E-Z Mart is a privately-held company with convenience stores in five states -- Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
