NEW YORK -- In just another example of the power of social media, Dos Equis has become the first beer brand globally to reach one million ‘Likes’ on Facebook. The Mexican beer reached the milestone after a 16-month growth spurt.
"We are absolutely thrilled and honored," said Paul Smailes, senior brand director for Dos Equis, Heineken USA. "Consumers continue to show their enthusiasm and passion for the brand unlike anything we could have imagined."
Dos Equis added more than 800,000 Facebook fans in 2010 alone. And while the beer is sold in several countries, including Mexico, Australia and Canada, 95 percent of its fans are from the United States, the company added.
The company points to its Most Interesting Man in the World campaign as a key factor of its success. It adds that Dos Equis fans generate between 100 and 1,000 Facebook wall posts a day, many of which are linked to the campaign. "Our goal was to provide an interactive environment for the brand to engage with our loyal enthusiasts, and provide them an opportunity to share their own passion for the brand with others," Smailes explained.
