STILLWATER, Minn. -- Cub Foods, a chain of warehouse-style grocery stores based here, is eliminating its popular cross-promotion with Bloomington-based Holiday Cos. Nov. 28, according to Minnesota-based Finance and Commerce. The chain will stop distributing cents-off coupons for Holiday Stationstores Nov. 7, and the coupons already distributed will expire Nov. 28, Lee Ann Jorgenson, community relations manager for Cub Foods, told the newspaper.
However, she added, Cub will continue its Cub Fuel Express Stations program, which operates at nine company-owned gas stations and during the Cub-Holiday cross-promotion.
Designed to encourage increased shopping at Cub and help lessen pain at the pump, the promotion with the Holiday convenience store chain began as a seasonal business builder in 2007, giving shoppers a 1-cent discount per gallon of gas for every $10 spent on groceries, according to the newspaper report.
"It's a constant re-evaluation of all the programs that we offer," Jorgenson said in the report.
Holiday's gas coupon agreement with Cub originally offered just one coupon to be redeemed, but the program expanded to allow the use of up to three cents-off coupons on up to 12 gallons of gasoline at Holiday stations, lasting far beyond the original date of Labor Day 2007 for the end of the promotion, the report stated.
