Casey's, Hy-Vee Recognized by Salvation Army

November 08, 2009 - DES MOINES -- Casey's General Stores and Hy-Vee were presented "Doing the Most Good" Awards Thursday evening during the annual meeting of the Salvation Army of Des Moines, the Des Moines Register reported.

The two companies have underwritten the Central Iowa Honor Flights that have taken 1,200 World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit various memorials.

As CSNews Online previously reported, the convenience store chain donated $250,000 to Central Iowa Honor Flight in August -- enough money to charter a 747 jet for a day trip for the veterans to visit the nation's capital and World War II Memorial. In October, the Ankeny, Iowa-based convenience retailer announced it was funding a second Honor Flight.
