Flying J Warns of Potential Layoffs

November 03, 2009 - OGDEN, Utah -- Travel plaza operator Flying J Inc., based here, recently sent a conditional Warn Notice to the Texas Workforce Commission, and said 32 workers may be laid off at its restaurant at 15919 North Freeway in Houston, the Houston Business Journal reported.

In its letter Flying J said it expects an unnamed national restaurant chain to take over operation of the restaurant on or about Dec. 1, and in this instance, most or all of the employees may be offered employment, according to the report.

In addition, the new operator may close the restaurant temporarily after Dec. 1, for branding and other changes, and following this, workers could resume employment, Flying J said in the letter cited by the newspaper.

However, should the new operator's plans change, the employees could be laid off permanently, the company warned. The layoffs would take effect on or within 14 days after Dec. 1.
