Terrible Herbst Selling Signs for Safe Place

November 01, 2009 - LAS VEGAS -- The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth is holding its Safe Place sign sale through Dec. 6 at all Terrible Herbst convenience store locations in southern Nevada, NEWS 88.9 KNPR reported.

Donations start at $1 and go to $10,000. Donors will have their name put on a Safe Place sign, which will be posted at all Terrible Herbst stores for the campaign's duration.

According to the retailer's Web site, Terrible Herbst convenience stores in Clark County partnered with the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth to launch the Safe Place program in January 2002. The program provides access to immediate assistance and resources for young people in a crisis.

Available 24 hours a day, a youth can go to any Terrible Herbst store in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Mesquite, Laughlin, Searchlight and Pahrump, Nev. When the youth accesses a Safe Place site, they are moved to a secure location while a trained Terrible Herbst staff member contacts the homeless youth Mobile Crisis Intervention Team.

A licensed professional arrives to the site within 20 minutes of the call to assist the youth with basic medical care (if necessary) and transports the youth to an appropriate alternative location (relative's house, shelter, drug rehabilitation facility, etc.).

More than 200 Las Vegas youth have been served through Safe Place in Las Vegas.
