AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Maple Road Wilson Farms store here, owned and operated by Wilson Farms Inc. closed its doors for good at 11 p.m. Saturday.
"The current facility is no longer favorable to sustaining a financially sound operation based on our current business model. Therefore, we have reluctantly decided to close our store located at Maple and Ayer," said Paul Nanula, president and CEO of Wilson Farms, which operates under three banners -- Wilson Farms Neighborhood Food Stores, Wilson Farms Xpress and Sugarcreek. "We thank the surrounding community for their support and patronage over the years and hope they will visit our other neighborhood food stores, four of which are located within 3 miles of the closing location."
Associates employed at the closed location are being offered positions at other stores, and as of now, there are no plans to close additional locations in area, according to Nanula.
"We have 189 stores and the natural process is to continually evaluate the long-term viability of all locations," he explained. "Our plans are to expand the number of locations, as well as invest $15 to $20 million in improvements over the next 3 to 5 years."
The future of the Maple Road building will be determined by the landlord.
