Jackson's Owner Gives $500,000 for Boise State Business School

October 29, 2009 - BOISE, Idaho -- John D. Jackson, owner of Jackson Food Stores based in Meridian, Ida., donated $500,000 to Boise State Business School, a place where he studied accounting and serves on the board, according to a report by the Idaho Statesman.

The money will go toward a new College of Business and Economics building, and Jackson's gift will establish the Jackson Commons, a grand entryway to the new building where the former University Inn is located, the newspaper reported.

"He is one of Boise State's and Idaho's success stories, and we thank him for giving back in support of a high-quality learning environment for future students," said Boise State President Bob Kustra.

The Micron Technology Foundation committed to a $12.5 million gift for the business building in 2007, with $5 million of it contingent on Boise State raising $5 million in matching funds by the end of 2009, the newspaper reported. With Jackson's donation, the university is only $1.5 million away from its goal.
