McLane Recognized for 'Ground-Breaking' Relationship With Wawa

October 12, 2009 - TEMPLE, Texas -- The New Jersey division of McLane Grocery, a division of McLane Co. Inc., received Food Logistics' Golden Pallet award for foodservice distribution in the convenience store wholesaler category.

The annual Golden Pallet Awards, sponsored by Food Logistics magazine, recognize excellence in warehousing. The award for foodservice distribution will be featured in the October issue of the publication, according to McLane.

McLane operates 20 grocery distribution centers across the U.S., and its New Jersey location is entirely dedicated to Wawa Inc. McLane and Wawa teamed up in 2004, and together have built one of the country's most reliable and efficient operations processes with nearly perfect delivery and order fulfillment rates, the company stated.

The state-of-the-art, 220,000-square-foot facility is located in Carneys Point at the southern end of New Jersey, strategically located within easy reach of the majority of Wawa's convenience stores and suppliers. The McLane distribution center handles a broad line of products for Wawa that range from motor oil and health and beauty aids to fresh fruit cups, produce, luncheon meats and a host of frozen products.

"Our facility here in New Jersey is unique, and we are proud of the relationship we've built with Wawa over the years," Jim Tidmore, president of McLane New Jersey, said in a statement. "McLane and Wawa have many values in common. We both believe in taking care of our employees and creating a positive environment to work in. This award is a testament to the hard work we've done together and the efficiency improvements we've been able to accomplish as partners."

Wawa offers a large fresh food selection including its award-winning freshly brewed coffee (more than 195 million cups sold each year). Currently, Wawa operates more than 560 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

McLane is a $30 billion supply chain services leader, providing grocery and foodservice supply chain solutions for thousands of convenience stores, mass merchants, drug stores and military locations, as well as thousands of chain restaurants throughout the United States. McLane is a wholly owned unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
