McDonald's Recharges Customers and Cars

July 09, 2009 - OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Many thought gas stations would be the first places to offer recharge points for electric vehicles, but McDonald’s is positioning itself to be the first destination where customers can recharge themselves and their cars.

Working with NovaCharge, McDonald’s restaurants in the southeastern U.S. will have ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations installed, allowing customers to drive in, hook up their car and go grab some food, according to a report by Geek.com.

The first ChargePoint-enabled McDonald’s is set to open July 14, in Cary, N.C.

For now, it seems the charging points may be limited to new McDonald’s restaurant builds, which also incorporate sustainability and eco-friendly materials in construction and daily operations, but there’s nothing stopping the ChargePoint system’s deployment to other restaurants in the chain in the future, the report stated.

"McDonald’s is an industry leader in environmental conservation and they are continually launching new initiatives to create a sustainable world. ... We are pleased to be able to partner with them to deliver the ChargePoint Network system, and to provide safe, convenient, grid-friendly, charging stations for electric vehicles," Helda Rodriguez, president of NovaCharge, said in the Geek.com report.
