Royal Dutch Shell Publishes 2008 Sustainability Report

May 11, 2009 - HOUSTON -- Royal Dutch Shell released its 2008 Sustainability Report, describing the company’s ongoing efforts to help meet one of the defining challenges facing society this century: providing more energy and lower CO2 emissions, according to ReportAlert.info.

Highlights include:
-- The company is staying the course and keeping a long-term view in these tough economic times.
-- Increasing production in cleaner-burning natural gas, which could grow from 45 percent of production in 2008 to more than half in 2012.
-- Investing $1.2 billion in research and development to create the technologies needed—such as carbon capture and storage, and advanced biofuels—to produce more and cleaner energy.
-- Providing customers with cleaner products, including Shell Economy Formula and Shell FuelSave fuels.
-- Stepping up advocacy efforts with governments, and calling for an effective international policy framework for CO2 management with a price for emitting CO2.

The report also includes an interview with Chief Executive Jeroen van der Veer, which discusses the oil company’s role in helping build a responsible energy future.
