Love's Travel Adds Wireless Internet Hot Spots

November 08, 2005 - OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City-based Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores joined with SiriCOMM Inc. to put wireless network access points at the company’s 160 locations, company representatives told The Journal Record .

SiriCOMM in Joplin, Mo., is an applications service provider and nationwide broadband wireless network operator serving the highway transportation industry. The company’s WiFi "hot spots" are already installed at similar businesses across 28 states. Adding Love's to the company’s network strengthens SiriCOMM's position as a WiFi provider in the highway transportation market, Love’s officials said in the report.

"SiriCOMM is gaining significant traction in the industry. Its unique network offering provides a real value to travel stop operators like Love's," Jim Xenos, Love’s chief information officer, told The Journal Record . "In addition to providing customer services, we plan to use their system to provide redundancy for data communications and transactions at all of our stores."

WiFi, or wireless fidelity, allows the use of portable information technology such as laptop computers to tap into the Internet. A SiriCOMM relay will be installed at each of the Love’s stops, and the convenience store chain will sell InTouch subscriptions to allow WiFi access. The hot spots will be installed over a period of months and InTouch subscriptions will be sold as each store comes online, according to the report.

"This new business relationship opens the door for the two companies to provide services to a mutual customer base," Love’s said in a prepared statement to The Journal Record .
