Michael Phelps Gets Behind Recovery Drinks

May 17, 2009 - CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- As Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps gets back into training, he and other athletes are touting the benefits of PureSport and the recovery drink category.

"Given the intensity of our training and my event program, PureSport Recovery is critical to my ability to recover and train effectively the next day," stated Phelps, who won a record eight gold medals last summer in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and is now working on a new stroke. "PureSport works for me, tastes good and will continue to be part of my overall swimming program."

Phelps’ long-time coach, Bob Bowman, also gets behind the beverage category. “PureSport was an important element to our Olympic preparations and performance in Beijing, and continues to be a key component to our daily training routine as we look toward London 2012.”

Other athletes who train with PureSport are gold medalists Nastia Liukin, Brendan Hansen and Aaron Peirsol; Ryan Powell, the nation’s top-ranked lacrosse player; soccer star Kenny Cooper, Jr.; triathletes Brandon Marsh and Amy Marsh; and NFL player Bernard Berrian of the Minnesota Vikings.

PureSport is a brand of patent-pending, just-add-water performance drinks that feature the optimal carbohydrate-to-protein ratio of 2:67-to-1. It was launched in July 2008, and is available in two formulations: PureSport Workout, which is used prior to and during exercise to improve endurance and reduce muscle tissue damage, and PureSport Recovery, which is used within 30 minutes of completing a workout to speed the storage of muscle and liver glycogen and promote muscle tissue repair.
