 Age verification goes beyond tobacco and alcohol
Retailers these days are becoming a one-stop shop for most consumers. Fares normally found at large scale grocers and drug stores are easily found at the C-store. Beyond cigarettes, soda, and candy bars customers can now find toiletries, groceries, and clothing accessories. Age restricted merchandise was generally restricted to tobacco and alcohol products. With the Patriot Act of 2005 retailers are now bound to the legal requirements for the sale and purchase of drug products containing pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine. The law requires that buyers of these drug products must present a photo identification card issued by the State and Federal Government or a document that is considered acceptable by the seller. Their information such as name, address, date, time of sale, and signature must be saved. The retailer must verify the entries and enter the name of the product and quantities sold.
