Conoco Pitches In

HOUSTON

More than 60 junior golfers raised $7,000 last week during the inaugural Conoco Drive, Pitch & Putt Junior Golf Contest and Skills Clinic at Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas. The money raised by youth golfers from nine Texas cities benefited the United Way?s September 11th Fund.

The fund-raiser added to a $1 million contribution Houston-based Conoco Inc. pledged to the families of fallen firefighters, police officers and Department of Defense personnel in New York and Washington. All funds raised at the golf outing were mailed to the United Way of New York City along with a giant 4 feet by 6 feet condolence card to victims of the tragedy signed by all participants, volunteers and family members associated with the golfing event.

?While we know that monetary donations cannot bring back the lives of lost loved ones or lessen the tremendous grief their families are feeling today, we hope we can contribute to starting the healing process," said Archie W. Dunham, chairman and CEO of the 219-store chain. "Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who are grieving.?
