    COMPETITIVE WATCH: ShopRite Gas Giveaway

The grocer gave customers $25 worth of gas for $75 purchases of select items.

KEASBEY, N.J. -- ShopRite recently concluded its gas giveaway incentive that gave its customers a break from the pain at the pump. From June 22 through July 5, ShopRite customers who used their Price Plus club card when purchasing $75 worth of any combination of Kraft, General Mills or Procter & Gamble products in a single purchase, received a free $25 Shell or BP gas card, the company stated.

"We are always looking for ways to give our customers added value," Karen Meleta, spokeswoman for ShopRite, said in a statement. "As our customers set off on their summer vacation, the free gas card should help ease the pinch at the gas pump."

Customers meeting the required purchase received a printed certificate at the bottom of the receipt, which was redeemable on their next shopping trip. Then, on their next shopping trip, customers could pick up a Shell or BP gift card from the rack and present it along with the certificate to the cashier, according to the company.

"For customers who do not have a BP or Shell gas station located in their area, a $25 ShopRite gift card is available in place of the gas card," added Meleta.

Eligible products were indicated in the grocer's weekly shopping circular with a "free gas" symbol, the company stated.
