Clark Steps to the Plate

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Clark Retail Enterprises Inc., which has been a major sponsor through the years to minor league sports teams, said it would continue its sponsorship of minor league baseball teams participating in the 2002 season.

The program features in-stadium and monthly in-store convenience product promotions at more than 400 Clark-branded retail and branded jobber gasoline and convenience stores throughout the Chicago, Illinois and Fort Wayne, Indiana areas. The program is an extension of Clark's brand building campaign, furthering the message that Clark is "the Real Deal."

"Our sponsorship of minor league baseball is an excellent vehicle for building brand awareness in our core markets," said John Matthews, vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Clark. "It's family entertainment that is an excellent fit for the demographic profile of Clark's value-conscious target consumer. This program is a strong component of our integrated marketing campaign designed to build the Clark brand by illustrating for consumers another added value that makes Clark 'the Real Deal.'"

The teams participating in the 2002 sponsorship program are the Kane County Cougars, a "Class A" affiliate of the Florida Marlins; the Schaumburg Flyers and Joliet JackHammers, members of the 18-team independent Northern League; and the Fort Wayne Wizards, a "Single A" affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

Sponsorship components include product promotions, public address announcements, exit couponing or sampling opportunities and ticket incentives. This program is designed to build awareness of the Clark and On The Go brands, increase customer traffic and promote incremental product of participating Clark vendors through high-impact media and in-store purchasing incentives.

Clark operates approximately 1,200 convenience stores in the Midwest.
