Casey's Gearing Up for Expansion in Greater Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. -- Casey's General Stores plans to expand its presence in the Wichita, Kan., region by adding at least three stores this year, according to a Wichita Eagle report. One will be located at the corner of South Meridian Ave. and I-235 in Wichita, and one will be at 222 South Meridian Ave. in Valley Center. The location of the third store has yet to be announced.

"It looks like we've got a lot of sites that we're looking at in the Wichita area," Casey's Chief Financial Officer Bill Walljasper told the news outlet.

J.P. Weidgand & Sons' Leisa Lowry handled the deals for the sites, according to the report. The new stores, which have not yet begun construction, will open their doors in late summer 2013 at the earliest, and other work may follow.

"We also [will] look to renovate stores in the area as well," Walljasper said. "Just some of the older ones periodically."

Approximately a dozen Casey's stores operate in Wichita and the surrounding area. "The stores seem to be pretty well received by the communities," Walljasper added. "Kansas is certainly an area we continue to grow in. … We like the area."
