C-store Industry Steps Up Haiti Relief Efforts

NEW YORK -- One week after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti, the convenience and petroleum retailing industry continues to step up its efforts to assist in the disaster relief and recovery efforts underway in the country.

Among the latest developments:

NOCO Energy Corp.
Tonawanda, N.Y.-based NOCO Energy Corp. partnered with the National Payment Card Association -- the processor of the NOCO Friends & Family Club Card with EZ Pay -- to give customers the opportunity to support the American Red Cross International Response Fund for Haiti.

For every gas purchase customers make with their NOCO Friends & Family Club Card with EZ Pay from Jan. 20-22, NOCO Express and the National Payment Card Association will donate 100 percent of the profits from their processing fees to benefit the American Red Cross' relief efforts in Haiti.

"There has been an outpouring of support to aid those devastated by the recent earthquake in Haiti, as well as the recovery efforts of the American Red Cross," stated Henry Bays, general manager of NOCO Energy Corp. "Our arrangement with the National Payment Card Association was an easy and simple way to help in these efforts."

The NOCO Friends & Family Club Card with EZ Pay is a loyalty program that features reward points for frequent customers and eliminates the hassle of prepay.

Hess Corp.
New York-based Hess Corp. announced a $1 million donation to Haiti relief efforts.

"We are deeply concerned about the people suffering from the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti," John Hess, CEO and chairman of the board of Hess Corp., said in a statement. "To help provide medical care, shelter, water and other essential supplies, we are donating $1 million to the following outstanding organizations that are on the ground in Haiti providing critical aid: $500,000 to the International Medical Corps; $250,000 to UNICEF; and $250,000 to the International Rescue Committee."

In addition, the company has offered a matching gift program for employees who wish to make a personal contribution to these relief organizations.

Shell Oil Co.
Shell Oil Co. and Motiva Enterprises LLC are donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to aid in the organization's disaster relief and recovery efforts in Haiti.

"This is a trying time for Haiti and a chance for the rest of the world to lend a hand to those in need," stated Marvin Odum, Shell Oil Co. president. "Shell has a long track record of supporting disaster relief efforts. The people of Haiti are in our thoughts and prayers."

Alimentation Couche-Tard/Circle K
Alimentation Couche-Tard/Circle K is doing its part to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti by partnering with the Quebec division of the Canadian Red Cross.

Since last Friday and continuing through this Sunday, each time a customer adds a donation of $1 or more to his or her purchase at any of the chain's 625 outlets in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, the company will match the donation, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross. This contribution will help the organization respond to the urgent needs of thousands of earthquake victims, including food and water, clothing, temporary accommodation, first aid, psychological care, etc., according to the retailer.

"The large Couche-Tard family wanted to do something concrete to help those trying to cope with this tragedy," said Michel Bernard, vice president of Eastern Canada operations. "In order to act as quickly as possible, we decided to collect donations throughout our vast network of stores, which each day serves close to 500,000 people."

Kum & Go
At Kum & Go stores, customers can opt to donate $1 at checkout to the American Red Cross for Haiti relief efforts. In addition to customer contributions, the c-store chain will donate $20,000 to the Red Cross International Response Fund, which has been designated to help victims of the Haiti earthquake, according to a news release.

"We join the rest of the world in looking for ways to assist the people of Haiti," stated Kyle J. Krause, Kum & Go president and CEO. "In addition to Kum & Go's contribution, we want to give customers the opportunity to help the Red Cross with relief efforts."

Kum & Go stores will be collecting donations until Sunday.
