C-Store Cuisine Earns Cash for Charity

NORFOLK, Va. -- At a number of the top restaurants in Hampton Roads, Va., unique menu items prepared using products found in a convenience store will earn money for charities Sept. 14 to 23 as part of the Eat Good! Do Good! program.

The program began earlier this year during the 2007 Miller's Neighborhood Market-Hampton Roads Magazine Convenience Store Cook Off, where five top chefs from area restaurants had $25 and 25 minutes to stock their pantries for the cookoff in the Miller's Neighborhood Market store at Old Dominion University.

Using those supplies, the chefs had less than an hour to prepare an entree and dessert using the kitchens at Norfolk's Tidewater Community College, Miller stated.

Now, the winning dishes will be featured in the chefs' restaurants during the Eat Good! Do Good! week. When customers purchase one of the convenience store menu items, proceeds will benefit charities the chefs selected and the Miller Oil Foundation.

The dishes can be sampled at home using the Cook Off souvenir recipe book, which is available at Hampton Roads, Va., locations of Miller's Neighborhood Markets. All proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Miller Oil Foundation.
