Burger King Test Marketing "Fire-Grilled Ribs"

DES MOINES, Iowa -- National Pork Board President (NPB) Steve Weaver reported during last week’s World Pork Expo Burger King is test marketing "Fire-Grilled Ribs" in four markets, as a result of more than a year of development between the quick-service chain and the National Pork Board, Pork Magazine reported.

"We've worked with experts in food innovation, product marketing, and research and development to provide Burger King with industry data and information, market trends and menu concepting, along with product review and evaluations," Paul Perfilio, NPB national foodservice marketing manager, said in the report.

Burger King is testing the ribs in 300 of its stores in Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Greensboro, N.C. and Orlando, Fla. The full-muscle ribs, cut into short sections will be offered in three-, six- and eight-piece servings. A dipping sauce will be included.

Weaver noted the long-term plan is to offer the product in up to 3,500 of Burger King's nearly 8,000 U.S. restaurants by next year.
