BP's ampm Teams With 2011 Big West Basketball Tournament

LA PALMA, Calif. -- As title sponsor of this week's 2011 Big West Tournament, BP's ampm convenience store brand said it wants to ensure that students, alumni and fans of Big West schools enjoy their experience even more during this year's basketball tournament.

The 2011 ampm Big West Tournament, which kicks off tomorrow and runs through Saturday at the Honda Center Anaheim, includes promotional opportunities and store rewards.

BP's ampm and the Big West are launching all-inclusive programs to reward fans for showing their passion for their school. A dedicated event Web site launched January 26, and the ampm Big West Tour that visits all nine campuses has already commenced. At each of the stops, students and fans are encouraged to enter a text message sweepstakes, which will see one lucky winner receive $500 in textbooks to help them through their semester.

In addition, ampm is being featured prominently on Big West television broadcasts, Anaheim Ducks broadcasts and at the Honda Center Anaheim throughout this year's tournament.

"What could be more fitting for a brand that delivers 'Too much good stuff' than a tie-in program with college basketball's most exciting time of the year," Bill Fry, president of ampm, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to work with the Honda Center Anaheim to bring students and fans the exciting Big West tournament."

Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell added: "This relationship will not only provide an opportunity for the Big West story to reach a broader audience, but will also provide an avenue for ampm to engage an important demographic constituency on all our member campuses."

The Big West Tournament is the oldest NCAA Division I post-season basketball tournament in the West, dating back to 1976 when the conference was known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association. The Big West is comprised of nine schools located throughout the state of California, including: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific and UC Davis.

The ampm brand was founded in 1978 in Southern California by ARCO. ARCO-branded ampm stores are currently found in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona; BP-branded ampm stores are located in Chicago, Orlando, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta.
