Boyd Coffee CEO Recognized For Service

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Dick Boyd, co-CEO and president of Boyd Coffee Co., was recently inducted into the Washington Restaurant Association’s Allied Member Hall of Fame. He is only the second person to be inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.

For almost a decade, Boyd Coffee Co. has been involved with the Washington Restaurant Association’s ProStart program, a two-year curriculum designed to teach students the management skills needed for a career in the restaurant and foodservice industry.

"involvement with ProStart is a natural fit for Boyd Coffee Co.," Boyd, a third-generation Boyd family member, said in a released statement. "Our participation speaks to one of our company’s guiding principles of contributing to a better community and supporting the next generation of the foodservice industry."

Boyd’s award was bestowed at a dinner March 8, following the association’s annual Boyd Coffee ProStart Invitational event. Teams of students from 22 Washington high schools were challenged to prepare two identical copies of a three-course meal -- starter, entrée and dessert -- using two butane burners and no pre-prepared ingredients or electrical equipment. The competitors had one hour to prepare their masterpieces.

Over the course of its nine-year relationship with ProStart, Boyd Coffee Co. grew its participation to include programs in Oregon and California as well.

“Boyd Coffee Co. has a 109-year history of leadership in the foodservice industry,” Boyd stated. “The students that participate in ProStart represent the future of foodservice and we are pleased to support their innovation and creativity in an industry that continues to redefine itself.”

Boyd Coffee Co. provides specialty coffees, espresso, rare estate coffees and teas, and related equipment for restaurants and other foodservice operations nationwide and abroad.
