Blockbuster Gets Into Private Label and Gifts for the Holidays

DALLAS -- Blockbuster added a host of new items to its stores in time for the holidays, including private label products such as chocolate-covered fortune cookies featuring double-sided messages with famous movie quotes ($14.99), and new Blockbuster-branded popcorn in white cheddar, kettle corn and lightly salted flavors ($2.99), the company reported. Popcorn gifts are also available in exotic s'mores-caramel and gingerbread-caramel flavor combinations ($9.99).

"For 25 years, Blockbuster has been an important stop on our customers' shopping lists during the holidays, and this season is no exception. We're providing even more convenience with exciting gifts -- including new exclusive merchandise and our private-label products," said Jan Kelly, senior director of marketing.

Additionally, holiday candy available at Blockbuster includes snowman lollipops, peppermint candy trees, chocolate lumps of coal, chocolate-covered Christmas tree Peeps, and more.

Movie-themed gift merchandise includes such Blockbuster exclusives as mugs, key chains, lanyards, buttons, bobble-heads, comfy throws and board games all featuring "The Nightmare Before Christmas" graphics, with many items under $10, as well as posters, framed art, calendars, stickers, plush toys and pillows, according to the company.

At the upper end of the gift spectrum, Blockbuster offers competitively priced consumer electronics including a Sony PlayStation 3 bundle with a $20 Blockbuster gift card and 12-week rental card ($399.99); the Toshiba BDX2700 Blu-ray Disc Player WiFi enabled ($149.99); and a Sony DVD Player with progressive scan ($39.99).
