    Hispanic Retail 360 to Stage Cultural Immersion Tour

    SAN ANTONIO -- Attendees of the 2014 Hispanic Retail 360 Summit here will have the opportunity to visit five retail establishments that aggressively target the area’s Latino consumers.

    Sponsored by Goya Foods, the Cultural Immersion Tour will begin Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. and run until approximately 3 p.m. Buses will depart from the San Antonio Marriott River Center, located at 101 Bowie St.

    Retailers participating in the tour include:

    • Goodwill Industries
    • H-E-B
    • Walmart
    • Market Square (El Mercado)
    • La Michoacana

    During each stop, company officials will be on hand to discuss strategies and answer questions.

    Goodwill Industries of San Antonio covers a 24-county territory (more than 14,000 square miles) and has 18 retail stores and 25-plus donation stations. The organization's Good Careers Centers also help individuals find employment or explore a new career, while its Good Careers Academy offers career training and education to help people start, retain or advance their careers.

    H-E-B plus! stores are about more than groceries. They outfit Texas families with what they need for a Texas lifestyle — from coolers sporting Texas sports teams to meat smokers. Each store is a one-stop shop for electronics, toys, housewares, grilling and outdoor items, party supplies, apparel and more.

    La Michoacana Meat Market is the largest independent Hispanic grocery store chain in the United States. Meat is cut and prepared to order, and a department of authentic Mexican dishes is offered. 

    Market Square (El Mercado) is known for authentic Mexican dining and music, enriched with a fascinating legacy of public markets. The company's first businesses were a pharmacy and a dry goods store.

    Walmart aims to help people around the world save money and live better -- anytime and anywhere -- in retail stores, online and through their mobile devices. Each week, more than 245 million customers visit the company’s nearly 11,000 stores under 71 banners and e-commerce websites.

    According to Geoscape, San Antonio has a population of 2.6 million and 57 percent of residents are Hispanic (94 percent of Mexican origin). Many are acculturated and bilingual.

    Cultural Immersion Tour participants must be registered for the Hispanic Retail 360 Summit, although taking part in the tour is optional. There is an additional pre-registration fee of $119 to participate ($129 on-site). The tour is limited to 150 attendees and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
