Marathon Petroleum Named America's Best Employer

FINDLAY, Ohio — Marathon Petroleum Corp., parent company of Speedway convenience stores, climbed up the ladder to capture the No. 1 spot on Forbes' America's Best Employers 2016 list. The company jumped from the No. 3 spot last year.

To determine this year's list of 500 employers across 25 industries, Forbes worked with online statistics provider Statista to survey more than 30,000 U.S. workers employed by companies with more than 5,000 staff members.

Marathon Petroleum was spun off from Marathon Oil Corp. in 2011 and had a market cap of $26.9 billion as of May 2015, according to the report. CEO Gary Heminger leads the company of 45,340 employees with $91.17 billion in sales. The company operates through three segments: refining and marketing; pipeline transportation; and Speedway LLC, its convenience store arm.
