CITGO Honored for MDA Research Contributions

HOUSTON — CITGO Petroleum Corp. has been recognized for its research contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) at the 2017 MDA Scientific Conference.

Alan Flagg, CITGO assistant vice president of supply and marketing, accepted a special award for CITGO's contribution to MDA's research program and was presented with a white coat by MDA Chairman of the Board R. Rodney Howell, M.D.

The coat serves as a symbol of CITGO's commitment to funding treatments and cures for neuromuscular diseases for more than 30 years, the company stated. CITGO has raised more than $200 million in support of MDA's mission through events and programs, including golf tournaments, distinguished events and MDA’s Shamrock’s program.

The 2017 MDA Scientific Conference took place on March 20 in Arlington, Va. The conference gathered the nation's leading scientists, researchers and professionals specializing in neuromuscular disease research and care, designed to accelerate discoveries and drug development for families battling such diseases.

The Scientific Conference is part of MDA's annual conference series, which hosts clinical gatherings and scientific research gatherings in alternate years.
